Hand board surface treatment process ⑨: Silk Screen Printing

During printing, through the extrusion of the scraper, the ink is transferred to the substrate through the mesh of the picture and text part to form the same picture and text as the original. Screen printing equipment is simple, easy to operate, simple printing and plate making, low cost and strong adaptability. Screen printing has a wide range of applications. Common printing materials include: color oil paintings, posters, business cards, binding covers, commodity signs, printing and dyeing textiles, etc.

In the machining industry, everyone must be familiar with silk screen printing. But what are the advantages and characteristics of silk screen printing? Next, let’s learn about silk screen printing, so that you can better choose the most suitable surface treatment process when making products:

Advantages of screen printing:

1. Not limited by the size and shape of the substrate:

Generally, printing can only be carried out on the plane, and screen printing can not only print on the plane, but also print on the shaped objects with special shapes, such as spherical surfaces. Anything with shapes can be carried out by screen printing.

2. The layout is soft and the printing pressure is small: the screen is soft and elastic.

3. Strong coverage of ink layer: it can make pure white printing on all black paper, with strong three-dimensional sense.

4. Suitable for various types of inks

5. Strong optical rotation resistance: it can keep the luster of printed matter unchanged. (temperature and sunlight have no effect). This makes it unnecessary to use additional lamination when printing.

6. Flexible and diverse printing methods

7. Plate making is convenient, the price is cheap and the technology is easy to master

8. Strong adhesion

9. It can be pure manual silk screen printing or machine printing

10. It is suitable for long-term display, and the advertisements outside are expressive

Disadvantages of screen printing

1. Multi Color: it is well known that silk screen printing can only print one color at a time. Then for multi-color printing, it is necessary to carry out complex and cumbersome color registration! There are relatively few technicians in this field, and it is good to have less colors. If you need to print four or five colors at a time, it is inevitable that there will be inaccurate chromaticity. In this way, the scrap rate of products is increased, and the cost is increased accordingly. But like those patterns with more than four colors or gradients, silk screen printing can only catch up with it!

2. Small batch:

As we all know, if silk screen printing wants to print patterns, it must have a set of processes that cannot be saved. That is plate making and film making. If the quantity is small, these costs are quite high. Therefore, the general silk screen printing companies do not take small jobs, mainly because the cost is too high!

3. Radian limit:

For screen printing, this process can only be used for flat products. If there are some bumps, it can’t be solved completely.

4. The ink volume cannot be controlled:

As we all know, some products need to maintain their original state while printing, especially textile products. After printing, many customers want to maintain the texture of textiles, so it is difficult to do it with silk screen printing.
