Is the 3D printer really the bigger the better?

With the gradual rise of people’s demand, 3D printing enterprises are making their products bigger and bigger, just like the development of mobile phone screens.

3D printing is not a strange word, especially in manufacturing and medical biology. However, with the gradual development of 3D printing, the original technology of 3D printer has not been further improved, especially the development of FDM technology. It can be said that there is basically no technical breakthrough. However, some enterprises are keen on one thing: big, bigger! With the slogan of Apple, why is it big.

Big, just fine?

As we all know, the problems that often occur in 3D printers are mainly layer shifting, material failure, power failure, etc. Although there are many solutions to these problems, can you ensure that printing can be stopped when problems occur?

Looking around the 3D printers on the market, the break detection is usually near the control line of the extruder, not at the inlet and outlet of the consumables of the extruder. If the consumables are disconnected at the extruder, the printer will still think that the supply of consumables is normal, but the extruder will not extrude consumables, causing idling. This is basically a failure for the works.

The phenomenon of layer shifting is mostly caused by insufficient motor strength. If the motor strength is too large, the inertia of the extruder’s own weight will lead to slight shaking of the extruder module, which will lead to the path of some consumable extrusion models. At the same time, in order to save costs, large 3D printers use the belt drive mode, which will indirectly affect the model accuracy in the case of long distance.

Secondly, the weight of large 3D printers is generally biased. During transportation, DIY type machines can be handled separately, while integrated machines need to be handled by machines, which is not practical for ordinary users.

It can be seen that the gimmicks of large 3D printers are more than their practical uses. Especially for FDM based 3D printers, it is better to buy several small 3D printers than to spend hundreds of thousands of dollars to buy such 3D printers. Especially in the pursuit of precision, printing in batches with small 3D printers may achieve better results.
