About HDPE for CNC Machining

Ultrahigh molecular weight polyethylene, or UHMW polyethylene, is a subset of high-density polyethylene (HDPE) that has some additional advantages. The material’s extremely long chain polymer helps improve its overall toughness. Its coefficient of friction is comparable to that of teflon, but it has better wear resistance. CNC machining of UHMW polyethylene is similar to machining other engineering plastics.

UHMW polyethylene is an advanced engineering plastic, which has extraordinary toughness, chemical resistance and wear resistance, even more than steel.

Generic UHMW-PE

UHMW machining produces tough and wear-resistant parts, making it ideal for applications exposed to impact loads and abrasive materials. Common applications include wear plates and seals. Due to its susceptibility to creep, UHMWPE is not suitable for parts under continuous stress.
