Ultrahigh molecular weight polyethylene, or UHMW polyethylene, is a subset of high-density polyethylene (HDPE) that has some additional advantages. The material’s extremely long chain polymer helps improve its overall toughness. Its coefficient of friction is comparable to that of teflon, but it has better wear resistance. CNC machining of UHMW polyethylene is similar to machining other engineering plastics.
